What We Wish We Knew Before Audrey Couldn’t Walk:

It's packed with everything we wish we knew about IVDD before Audrey's diagnosis.
What Is IVDD?
Intervertebral Disc Disease is a condition where the discs between a dog’s spinal vertebrae begin to degenerate. Over time, or sometimes suddenly, those discs can bulge or rupture — putting pressure on the spinal cord and leading to pain, nerve damage, or even paralysis.
It’s essentially a herniated disc, but in dogs.
Some dogs may show symptoms gradually (like limping, trembling, or trouble jumping), while others — like Audrey — may experience sudden loss of mobility, requiring emergency surgery.
Our Mission
Pawvention started with Audrey, our playful, spirited Frenchie whose life changed overnight after a sudden IVDD diagnosis.
That experience opened our eyes: while IVDD isn’t completely preventable, there are simple steps that can reduce the risk. We just didn’t know them in time.
Now, Pawvention exists to change that. Our mission is to empower dog parents with knowledge, tools, and daily habits that support joint and spinal health so more dogs can stay active, happy, and on their feet longer.
